PhD position as Research Associate

The MEET Battery Research Centre at the University of Muenster is seeking to fill two posts of a

PhD position as Research Associate
Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in
part-time, 50% of a full-time position
German salary scale for the public sector TV-L E13

This fixed-term post is available firstly until December 31, 2018 with the possibility of extension. Currently, the regular employment time for a half-time position is 19 hours and 55 minutes per week.

The scope of duties includes:

  • Improvement of cycling performance of metallic lithium anode by different approaches (surface modification, micro or nano structures etc.), addressing the issue of dendrite formation
  • Investigation and optimization of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) of metallic lithium anode with different types of electrolyte (polymer, ceramic, ionic liquid etc.)
  • Development of polymer membrane electrolyte (gel, solid, ceramics doped etc.) as a separation solution for lithium-air cell
  • Characterization of functionalized metallic lithium anode using different techniques
  • Examination of different properties of polymer membrane (chemical, electrochemical, mechanical etc.)
  • Lithium-air full cell testing and post mortem analysis of cycled lithium anode

The following requirements must be met:

  • Master Degree in chemistry or material sciences
  • Sound knowledge in the fields of electrochemistry and surface chemistry
  • Familiar with different electrochemical (LSV, CV, EIS etc.) and surface characterization methods (XPS, SEM, XRD, Raman, FTIR etc.)
  • Experience in research of lithium metal battery is favored
  • Knowledge of lithium conducting ceramic and polymer electrolyte is preferred
  • Experience with polymer membrane preparation techniques (spin coating, doctor blade, hot-press) is desirable
  • Very good command of both spoken and written English
  • Capability of both independent and corporative work
